D-Link DSM-520 MediaLounge Wireless HD Media Player
D-link has released a new networked media player with the DMS-520. They have added HD support up to 1080i so you can now view your photos and movies in all their glory. It comes with support for both wired and wireless connections to your network. The player is sized perfectly to fit in with the rest of your equipment and not stick out like some of the other devices we have seen.
This comes with just about all the bells and whistles you could want in a main network media player, including support for the following audio and video connections:
- HDMI
- S-Video
- Composite
- Component
- Opitcal out
- Digital Coax
There is also a USB port on the front of this device so you can plug in a USB flash drive or a full blown USB hard drive to extend the storage ability of the DMS-520. The USB port can also be used to transfer the wireless settings from your XP box to make setting up wireless networking on this box a snap.
You are able to browse all of your content via the included remote control and using the provided server software. The DMS-520 can play the following formats:

Unfortunately D-Link seems to have missed the mark with this device. Browsing the comments on Amazon and looking at other reviews around the 'net it just seems that this device is not ready for prime time. It has the makings for a great product, but it seems the software supplied is not mature enough yet to be adopted by the general public. So I guess our recommendation would be this product is only for those that see some of the features of this device as must have and are willing to put up with clunky software.
If you are still interested in checking this device out head on over to
Amazon.
