Slim Devices Transporter
After years of getting critical acclaim over their amazing
Squeezebox product, Slimdevices has released their ultra high end digital streaming device. The
Transporter is their answer to all of their loyal supporters that were asking for something more. Slimdevices has taken aim squarely at the serious audiophile crowd with this one and from everything we have read they have hit a bullseye.
Slimdevies has built up a solid reputation over the past few years with the success of the Squeezebox and they are capitalizing on it with this niche product.
This device does everything you would expect out of a $2000 network attached music player and more. They decided that if they were going make a high end audio component then they should make it look like one. A lot of people complained that the Squeezebox just didn't fit into their current setup. Its shape meant that you had to find a special place for it. Well with the Transporter you can just slip it in with the rest of your equipment and it will blend right in.

They have upgraded the internal DAC so sound quality should be nothing short of amazing. Once again the guys over at Slimdevices seem to have outdone themselves. They spared no expense in packing this baby with all the goodies to make any audiophile drool. Just like its baby brother the Transporter has no problem playing just about any audio format you can throw at it. The only thing it seems unable to do is deal with, as do most current digital players, is content protected songs that were bought with iTunes. We doubt this is going to be a problem since all the music on iTunes is ripped with such a low bitrate that the crowd that is buying the Transporter most likely won't be a big iTunes person.
We were very excited when we heard that the Transporter was real since it marked that Slimdevices had truly arrived and their products were becoming more accepted by the masses. Like we have been saying all along, the networked digital music boom has only just begun and its great that companies like Slimdevices are there to ensure it has good footing.
