Recent Viewing Trends in US Households

Nielsen has determined that as of February, 1/3 of US TV homes had at least one HDTV and that they were the single most popular home entertainment purchase during the holidays. The survey also claims that they are not replacing other sets, but instead relocate their older ones to other rooms. The average household has 2.6 total sets.
NPR's "Entertainment Trends in America" report claims that the US spends 80% of its hard earned bucks renting or buying discs as opposed to downloading. Sixty three percent was spent on DVD, while 7% went to Blu-ray. The remaining amount went to non-physical media such as VOD. While these two announcements certainly let us know the trends in viewing habits, we want to know if that 2.6 figure is like having 2.3 kids.
