Ishtar Cafe for Women Only

It's funny (but not the ha-ha kind) how we take for granted our ability to use our local Starbucks to do a bit of research on our lunch hours. Such is not the case in Iraq where women are not really welcomed in Internet cafes. Azhar al-Sheikhli, a former Iraqi Cabinet member, established the Ishtar center near the University of Baghdad for women only. Although there are thousands of such cafes there, she says that women seem to like the safety of the center and feel less intimidated when they need to ask questions.
