OLPC 3rd Generation Prototype

We haven't heard much lately from the folks at One Laptop Per Child, although a peek at their site shows that they are still being distributed. Yves Behar, of the fuseproject, has designed its third generation with an 8.5 x 11" flexible plastic touchscreen and wireless charging. Best of all, the tablet will supposedly have a $75.00 price tag. The newest OLPC is due out in 2012.

Ford Adds WiFi to SYNC System

Ford is counting on your next car being one of theirs and to make the deal sweeter, they are building WiFi into their SYNC system. You will have to have a mobile broadband modem and 3G card for access as you plug into its USB port. The deal includes software updates so that SYNC will be able to adapt to future devices.

Nvidia's Entry Into 3D

Another company has jumped into the 3D fray. Nvidia is offering an entire package consisting of a GeForce GPU, Nvidia 3D Vision active-shutter 3D glasses and a 1080p, 3D LCD displays from Acer. The bundle will allow users to build a desktop PC for less than $1,000.00 so they can watch all those 3D Blu-ray movies, images and websites that will surely crop up, not to mention the video games that will follow.

Free WiFi Under the Golden Arches

Strike 3, Starbucks. McDonald's began offering McCafe, redesigned many of their restaurants and will now be offering free WiFi courtesy of AT&T. They were charging $2.95 for two hours, but will cut the fee beginning in January at 11,000 of its 14,000 locations in the US. They also plan on selling frappes and smoothies to go with those fries and will soon have a dollar menu for breakfast.

The TravelOne is a microUSB wall charger and the CarOnecharger works from your cagarette lighter. All will be on display at the next CES and available for purchase soon thereafter.

Charlie Rose Makes Us Crave "Avatar"

If you watch PBS with any regularity, then you have surely heard of Charlie Rose. We don't think there is anyone he hasn't interviewed in the realm of the arts and politics, and masterfully so. Watching him with James Cameron December 17 discussing "Avatar" convinced us even more to run right out to see the 3D movie. Following in the recent footsteps of Time Warner, Disney is offering Upgrade2Blu. Not only do you get an $8.00 rebate when you accept the offer, you get to keep your old DVD. That makes it a sort of win-win situation since you can keep the Blu-ray disc for yourself and give your kids the used one. D-Link Creates Boxee Set Top Box

Boxee isn't just software anymore (although they have released an updated beta version.) D-Link's Box features an HDMI output, Ethernet and USB ports and built-in WiFi allowing the Interweb be seen in all its glory on your TV. Now that GPS is often available in cell phones, one wonders about the future of companies that offer them. JVC and Kenwood got together to create the MDV-313 that not only features car navigation, but offers a DVD player, TV tuner and USB iPod support. To be released in Japan first, it remains to be seen if other manufacturers decide to incorporate other features in their products.

AT&T and Verizon Make Nice

AT&T and Verizon have settled their lawsuit out of court. AT&T claimed that Verizon's "There's a Map for That" ads were false while Verizon complained about the same thing in their opponents' ads. We are for anything that gets rid of those irritating spots with Luke Wilson, including their offering Blackberrys at 50% off after rebate and 2 year contract.
