BBC iPlayer to Go Global

The entire planet will soon have access to the BBC's iPlayer. John Smith, the head of BBC Worldwide, says that because continental Europeans and North Americans do not have to pay the TV licensing fee, there will be some form of commercialization to make up for it. We are more than excited about the release due sometime next year as most of our access to UK media is limited to Netflix's BBC mini-series and occasional material on PBS.

UA Develops Holographs

MIT played around with holographic displays back in the 80's and the technology has been upgraded by various groups since then. The University of Arizona is one of these with a prototype that can refresh in only 2 seconds. Using ATPD/CAAN (polyacrylic tetraphenyldiaminobiphenyl/carbaldehyde aniline) and cameras, 2D pictures are taken and a computer coverts them into data. This is fed to a laser recording system that shoots them via Ethernet to a selected location. Perhaps George Lucas can use it in his next "Star Wars" prequel/sequel.

Word on the Interweb street is that the 3G Kindle can still access sites that China has blocked such as Facebook and Twitter. Further speculation seems to be whether they exempted it from censorship or just didn't notice. While the e-reader has not yet launched officially, they are available on the country's grey market. What we figure is that with all the online mention, China will certainly notice and the knowledge will affect legal sales on their mainland.
