Flip Video - R.I.P.

R_I_P_gravestone.png

It's kind of the end of an era as Cisco has decided to cease production of
Flip Video
. Originally acquired in March 2009 for $590 million, it was such a unique and wondrous cam that not only did I run out and buy one (and I never run out and buy anything) it's tough to reconcile the fact that they are just shutting it down.

Customers will still receive support, but the company plans to concentrate on Refocus, their home networking business, Business TelePresence products and Eos media solution.

Note: It seems that NY Times reporter David Pogue had mentioned that a new feature called FlipLive would have provided live broadcasting to Twitter, Facebook or email link if you are in a WiFi hotspot. Let's all take up a collection and purchase the rights to the original USB cam that I still use nearly daily.
