German Company Wreaks Havoc With Promotion
German computer company Convar Deutschland sent out some "gifts" to prospective clients that resembled time bombs. There were forty alarm clocks with attached hard drives and a note that said, "Your time is running out." Apparently no one got the joke. Police were called, buildings were evacuated and now the data-recovery service is stuck with the bill. However, they did get the publicity they sought and that will certainly be worth the expense.

That is either the most genius marketing campaign I've ever heard of or the dumbest! I guess it depends how many of them end up in jail for the stunt.
I was once doing the sound installation for a theatre under London Bridge station which got stormed by anti terror police. The reason being a carpenter who was working for saw a script lying about which said 'Terrorist bomb plan' (which was the name of the show). He took it to the police and wouldn't you know they come storming through the doors guns raised. I guess it never crossed there minds to actually read the script or wonder why there were lots of pictures of people with horses heads on. Poor theatre director was questioned for a whole day! :-)
