B612 Foundation to Map Larger Asteroids

sentinel.jpg

Scientists say that we have only located about 1% of a half million large asteroids that could potentially harm the planet. Ex-NASA staff and Ball Aerospace engineers formed the B612 Foundation in Mountain View, CA. They plan to launch a $200 million Sentinel telescope in 2017, the first privately funded probe. It has an HD camera with small detectors that scan moving objects beginning at 50 meters in diameter. A map is to be made with the images.
