Freakin' Friday! Droid Finally Arrives

We have all been inundated with commercials from Verizon Wireless, bragging about all the things that their Droid does, things that their major competitor, the iPhone, can't. Its 3.7" 854x480 display puts the iPhone 3.5" 480x320 display to a minor shame. Built on Android 2.0, the Magnavox smartphone has adopted Google services, including Apps, Voice and Maps, the latter being a freebie. A $199.99 investment with 2 year contract and email can make you a new proud owner, while existing customers can get one for $149.99.

AT&T Sues Verizon Over Map Ad

We dig the Verizon's recent commercial, "There's a Map for That." But it turns out that AT&T is so teed off at them that they are suing them. They say that the claim that Verizon offers 5 times as much 3G coverage as theirs is false advertising.

NAVi Award Winner - myTouch Google Phone

We all have to admit that we see Google ads and click on them once in awhile and can be influenced by the best and worst of TV ads. To this end, we are incorporating a new feature in NAV, an "I want it simply because the commercial is so good," which we find is the ultimate networking tool in action. So our first NAVi Award goes to the T-Mobile myTouch Google phone. The ad features Whoopi Goldberg, Phil Jackson and Jesse James. The background tune from Yusuf Islam (nee Cat Stevens) certainly deserves honorable mention.

People of Walmart Truly Unique

We had to share the site People of Walmart. We know that it is with fondness that they post images of some of the oddities that grace the aisles and parking lot (dig the flaming shoes!) Started by a couple that saw someone there that seemed unique, the site has an ongoing contest that will award the best photo a $100.00 gift card per month, from Wallyworld, of course.

Speedway Advertises in Guise of Information

Advertising by networking is everywhere. Go to an airport and you are bombarded with ads from their giftshops. Make a phone call to your bank and if you are put on hold, friendly voices let you know of other services. Check your cell phone messages and learn how to protect your cell phone. Hang at the mall in other countries and don't be surprised to find an enormous HD screen letting you know what's on sale. Need gas? While at the pump, Speedway will tell you the weather, report on traffic and let you know how many points it takes to get a free cuppa coffee.

Domino's Pizza Tracker

Want pizza but are too much of a couch potato to get up and order it? Fear not, Domino's now offers ordering online. The company has gone through some effort in their endeavor as it allows you to track your order through all its stages and will add any current coupon codes. Order sides, beverages and carb laden bowl pastas and count down the more or less 30 minutes. While you are waiting you can actually post it on Facebook, making your friends wanting to pig out as well. Last we checked, they had almost 300,000 friends.

Domino's doesn't stop there. Order on the go with your cell phone or plan your Friday night by ordering on your TiVo, a program that started late last year.

Hulu Releases Desktop beta

Hulu has announced a Desktop application built on flash for use with your PC or Mac. As opposed to their regular service, this one runs on your computer and doesn't need a browser. Usable with Windows Media Center or Apple control, it only takes 6 buttons to navigate. No remote? Use your keyboard and mouse. Hulu Desktop has been launched in beta, is looking for your feedback and will soon be available for the masses. We are all for any company that has such clever commercials.

TiVo Sneaks In Advertising During Pause

Back in December,
Series 2 TiVos
were treated to their newest advertising, displayed during a pause screen of either a live or time shifted program. Ironic, because those doing fast forwarding are trying their best to avoid the ads. It is possible to hide the bar, but you know that advertising in some form or another is inevitable. Software version 11.0c, which contains the feature, will soon be on all Series 3 HD boxes as well.

Farewell to Circuit City

We just saw a commercial for Circuit City. It was almost sad with the blaring voice telling everyone they were liquidating their 567 stores in the style of a Starving Artist sale. A visit to their site is equally depressing with a thank you to customers and mention of the fact that they were in business for 60 years. While you can trot over there and pick up some relatively inexpensive electronics, remember that you will not be able to return the items or get a refund at a later date from the chain, so only purchase from reputable names.

Super Bowl XLIII Advertising in 3D

If you haven't yet, run, don't walk to your nearest grocery store, Target, K-mart or Dollar General and get your 3D glasses so that you can watch the crossover commercials that will be going on tomorrow during Super Bowl XLIII. One comes from Dreamworks' new "Monsters vs. Aliens" which will be out March 27 and the other is from Pepsi's SoBe Lifewater. Then, you can watch "Chuck" in 3D Monday night. You might get so excited you will rush right out and order Captain EO and "Jaws:3D." Better hurry. Only 125 million pairs are available.

P.S. Stay tuned. Next week, we are going to interview Todd Juenger, an exec from TiVo who will let us know all the winning and losing spots.
