Freakin' Friday! Droid Finally Arrives

We have all been inundated with commercials from Verizon Wireless, bragging about all the things that their Droid does, things that their major competitor, the iPhone, can't. Its 3.7" 854x480 display puts the iPhone 3.5" 480x320 display to a minor shame. Built on Android 2.0, the Magnavox smartphone has adopted Google services, including Apps, Voice and Maps, the latter being a freebie. A $199.99 investment with 2 year contract and email can make you a new proud owner, while existing customers can get one for $149.99.

Freakin' Friday! AKG Pro Earbuds for All

akgearphones.jpg

AKG has been around since 1947, so they probably know what they are doing by now. One of the latest additions to their line are these K 330 in ear headphones. Weighing only 3g, they provide professional high output and frequency response. The buds block out ambient noise when placed in your ear canals, even though your mother told you not to put anything in there smaller than an elbow. Compatible with any portable device, including iPhone, they come with a carrying case and cable winder.

You know if Oprah digs it, it is a must have. A prime example are these Virtual Mobile Home Theater Video Glasses. Connect to a portable DVD player, iPod video, game console or TV tuner and you get a glorious 50" worth of viewing on its virtual TFT-LCD screen that appears at a 2M distance. We can see this as a must have for frequent fliers or traveling toddlers who keep asking, "Are we there yet?"

Freakin' Friday! Energizer Official Battery of Rock Band

advanceintooverdrive.jpg

In a most bizarre cross promotion, Energizer, MTV and Harmonix have teamed to create a contest for rock bands. Entrants can create a band profile with the Energizer Rock Band "Advance Into Overdrive application on Facebook. Then they must beg buds to vote for them and the "most creative, interactive, entertaining, and fan driven page" wins. Here's the kicker. The first prize is being able to rock out for 20 straight hours at the NY Times Square MTV store on Nov .13 and will be streamed on Energizer's site. This is supposedly because their Advanced Lithium batteries can go 20 hours longer than their MAX standard alkalines.

Not only will this push batteries, it is also meant to promote the new in-game feature 'Battle of the Bands' that will allow players to compete against others online. Okay, but couldn't they just have given out coupons or free samples?

Freakin' Friday! Terk HDTVa Antenna

hdtva.jpg

We finally caved and bought an indoor antenna to replace the one the cat ate. We admit we are a slave to "Hell's Kitchen" and haven't been able to get Fox since the digital crossover. We did some homework first, then settled on the Terk HDTVa because frankly, we not only liked its looks, we liked the way it could be positioned. We definitely approve of its reception, a gazillion times better than the one we got from the dollar store.

The HDTVa has a high gain amp for better reception and can receive UHF and VHF channels 2 - 69. The receiving element can be placed vertically or horizontally as can the antenna, and the dipoles can also be adjusted. We no longer have to constantly turn the thing after finding the best position. The only thing we don't like about it is that we still cannot get Fox and Chef Ramsey.

Freakin' Friday! Asus O!Play

asusoplay.jpg

Asus' O!Play has finally arrived in the US. With support for most video, audio and still image files, the media player has a USB 2.0 port and eSATA/USB combo port for input. The company also included a RJ-45 Ethernet LAN connection and both HDMI and A/V output. A low price and sleek look might be a good reason to consider the multi-functional O!Play.

Freakin' Friday! Holla for the Beatles!

beatlesrband.jpg

The memory of The Beatles lives on with the release of their Rock Band this week, as it is practically a historic account of their rise to fame from the beginning at the Cavern Club in 1963. It's hard to believe that it has been almost 50 years since their appearance on the music scene that practically changed the course of music. Abbey Road, Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band will also be downloadable in the month to come.

Available for Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, Rock Band is available as a standalone, Guitar Bundle and Limited Edition with bass, drums, mic and stand.
