Apple to Distribute Free iPhone Bumpers

iphonebumper.jpg

So Apple is not perfect. Steve Jobs is not perfect. The iPhone 4 is not perfect. Still with all the hoopla surrounding its imperfections, we hope the company goes beyond the quick fix of the free bumper offered to the 3 million purchasers. Get yours at the link below when they become available this week.

Amazon Acquires Woot

MonstrousConstruct.jpg

Amazon has made Woot one of its subsidiaries. While we hope that the site will not lose its cleverness after falling under the conglomerate's virtual thumb, we think that this comment posted by Woot CEO Matt Rutledge says it best:

"Over the next few days, you will probably read headlines that say "Matt Rutledge revealed to be monstrous pseudo-human creation of Jeff Bezos." You might even see this photo making the rounds. Rest assured that these rumors have nothing to do with our final decision. We think now is the right time to join with Amazon because, quite simply, every company that becomes a subsidiary gets two free downloads until the end of July, and we very much need that new thing with Trent Reznor's wife on our iPods."

PadLock Embarrasses iPad Thieves

We like nothing better than freeware here at NAV and think that the Padlock deserves a NAVi award. When your iPad, iPhone or iPod becomes unattached from your Mac (whether on purpose or by some nasty thief,) a loud noise disturbs you and everyone else around you at that WiFi café. To disable, simply plug your device back in or turn off internally. You can download PadLock at Kitchen Budapest.

Loop Price Lowered for Dads, Grads

loop3.jpg

This is your chance to get a Loop pointer at half price. Hillcrest Labs is offering the deal on the in-air wireless mouse in honor of Father's Day and graduation ceremonies. While we think this is a good idea, we would have liked it even more if it had also been in honor of Mom's Day, too.

(Thanks, Jeremy)

Online Channel EpixHD Offers Freebie

epix.png

Epix is a new online cable channel that also streams movies. Selections include cult classics such as the original "Friday 13th" and "Blood Simple" to recent films like "The Cove" and the first "Iron Man." Request an invite code and you might receive a 7 day pass. They say that the codes are available on a first come, first serve basis, but we expect it will be like the Netflix free trial for all. The service varies in price, depending on your TV provider.

Free TV Browsing With Kylo

kylo.png

Hillcrest Labs recently launched Kylo, a free Mozilla-based browser that can be used to connect to a TV via PC or Mac via HDMI, component, VGA or S-video cables. CEO Dan Simpkins came up with the idea and says that set-top boxes are really only alternate displays for the computer. Kylo has the ability to visit any website, zooms and pans, works with any mouse and an onscreen keyboard appears when there is the need.
