Time-Warp Technology Takes a Jump to the Left

061110tivo.jpg

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has decided that TiVo does not own the patent on time-warp DVR technology. This not great news for the company that received $200 million from EchoStar's Dish Networks last year. While EchoStar is obviously pleased by the news, TiVo says it will continue to harass work with the PTO "to explain the validity of the claims." The battle rages on to the federal appeals court for a rehearing.

TiVo Comes to BlackBerry

bbtivo.png

RIM has finally released TiVo for BlackBerry owners, sort of. With the free application, users can view their Program Guide and schedule movies and programs for the set-top box. Unfortunately, you cannot stream them onto the smartphones, but at least it is a step in the right direction and the price is right.

Domino's Pizza Tracker

pizzatracking.JPG

Want pizza but are too much of a couch potato to get up and order it? Fear not, Domino's now offers ordering online. The company has gone through some effort in their endeavor as it allows you to track your order through all its stages and will add any current coupon codes. Order sides, beverages and carb laden bowl pastas and count down the more or less 30 minutes. While you are waiting you can actually post it on Facebook, making your friends wanting to pig out as well. Last we checked, they had almost 300,000 friends.

Domino's doesn't stop there. Order on the go with your cell phone or plan your Friday night by ordering on your TiVo, a program that started late last year.

TiVo Sneaks In Advertising During Pause

pausetivo.jpg

Back in December,
Series 2 TiVos
were treated to their newest advertising, displayed during a pause screen of either a live or time shifted program. Ironic, because those doing fast forwarding are trying their best to avoid the ads. It is possible to hide the bar, but you know that advertising in some form or another is inevitable. Software version 11.0c, which contains the feature, will soon be on all Series 3 HD boxes as well.
